Your MAYTON shoes are crafted from premium Italian leather — a natural material that ages beautifully with the right care. Follow this guide to keep your shoes looking their best for years to come.
1. Cleaning
After each wear: Wipe your shoes with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust and dirt. For deeper cleaning, use a damp cloth with a small amount of mild soap — never soak the leather.
Suede styles: Use a suede brush to gently remove surface dirt. For stubborn marks, use a suede eraser. Avoid water — it can stain suede permanently.
2. Conditioning
Every 2–3 months: Apply a high-quality leather conditioner using a soft cloth, working it in with circular motions. Let it absorb for 10–15 minutes, then buff with a clean cloth. This prevents the leather from drying out and cracking.
Tip: Always test conditioner on a small, hidden area first. Less is more — a thin layer is better than saturating the leather.
3. Polishing
For smooth leather: Apply a quality shoe polish in a matching shade using a soft brush or cloth. Let it dry for 5 minutes, then buff to a shine with a horsehair brush. For a mirror shine on the toe, use a damp cloth with a small amount of polish in circular motions.
4. Storage
- Use shoe trees: Cedar shoe trees absorb moisture, maintain shape, and neutralize odors. Insert them after every wear.
- Rest between wears: Give your shoes at least 24 hours to air out before wearing them again. This lets the leather recover and extends the life of the shoe.
- Store in a cool, dry place: Avoid direct sunlight and heat sources, which can fade and dry out the leather.

5. Weather Protection
Before first wear: Apply a leather protector spray to guard against water and stains. Reapply every few weeks during rainy seasons.
Caught in the rain? Don't panic. Stuff your shoes with newspaper to absorb moisture, let them air-dry naturally away from heat, and insert shoe trees once dry. Never use a hair dryer or radiator — direct heat cracks leather.
6. Sole Care
- Leather soles: They're durable but not waterproof. Avoid wearing them in heavy rain, and consider adding a rubber sole protector for everyday use.
- Resoling: When the sole shows significant wear, visit a cobbler. A well-maintained pair of MAYTON shoes can be resoled multiple times — a true investment in quality.
